Emily Wilde's Encylopedia of Faeries: showing vs. telling

Showing vs Telling

Romance editor recommends Emily Wild's Encyclopedia of Faeries

100% Recommend!

Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Fairies is a humorous, fast-paced fantasy adventure, and slow-burn romance.

Not a full genre romance but a strong romance element!

Emily Wilde, a genius (and frankly awkward) professor of dryadology travels to the village of Hrafnsvik in the far north, obsessed with studying courtly fairies for her encyclopedia. While facing death and danger with an analytical mind, she constantly bickers with her colleague Wendel Bambleby whom she suspects of wanting credit for her work. She also believes he’s a secret fairy prince.

Character development

Show the personality traits of your main characters through their thoughts, emotions, dialogue and actions.

Heather Fawcette takes showing to a whole new level. While Emily fixates on her research, she’s completely oblivious to the fact Bambleby is straight up in love with her, which is perfectly evident to the reader through his actions and dialogue.

These scenes are utterly charming.

Reading novels where a main character is unaware of their perfect match's interest is so much fun! It's a skill well worth learning for a romance author.
